In 2006 to optimize expenses, Japanese Railway station company in prefecture Wakayama hired several workers for the position of supervisor. One of the new employees took several straying cats with her for the work and later company decided to hire one of the cats by the name Tama to supervisor position. Tama’s main duty was to meet and welcome passenger. This news spread all over the country in a short time and increased the passengers of the station. It has been estimated that cat Tama brought more than milliard Yens to the local economy. For these merits Tama was raised to the stationmaster, and worked in the company until his death in 2015 .
